Swedish Proverb. "Don't throw away the old bucket until you know whether the new one holds water." [Motivational Quotes of the Day]
So many executives ask for new strategies they haven't seen anywhere else. I ask, "What strategies have you already tried?" It's rare they note more than 3 things they have tried. Are you endlessly seeking new solutions to tired old problems?
You already have 80% of the solutions you need to be a market leader. The actions you've taken to get you to where you are today are the foundation of tomorrows efforts. What standards have you set for the basics?
Educate each employee in the core actions your company takes to fulfill customers desires. Look at what you've already doing well, improve on those actions slightly, and then proceed toward your objectives. Incremental improvement will grow your company faster than any mind blowing innovation.
It's not the new ideas that improve your business, but how you improve on what you are already doing. You can't do anything revolutionary if you can't implement the basics. I know that isn't what people want to hear, but how can you run when you can't walk.
